Relationship Rituals

In-person or online bespoke tantric rituals for couples

WHAT IS RITUAL?

A ritual is more than just a routine — it’s an intentional practice that invites us to be fully present, creating a space where meaning can flourish. It can serve to create a bridge between the ordinary and the sacred — or to remind us, perhaps, that everything is sacred. However, the idea of ritual is non-dogmatic and doesn’t require any specific belief system; it’s simply a way to find your own meaning and connection in whatever way works for you. It can be an entirely secular, non-religious, ordinary act. A ritual is, at its simplest, a mindful moment that allows us to pause, reflect, and connect with something deeper within ourselves or beyond.

RITUALS FOR ROMANTIC PARTNERS

THE JOY OF RELATIONSHIP RITUALS

In the context of love, a relationship ritual is a moment set aside with clear intentions, beyond daily interactions; a conscious choice to honour something sacred within each partner and the connection they share. Unlike habits or routines, which we often do without much thinking or awareness, rituals require mindfulness and purpose, creating a special container for shared vulnerability and openness.

Relationship rituals are the cornerstone of ‘conscious’ relationships, because they can take you out of the mundane monotony of life (especially if you’ve become a bit like ships in the night), and offer a moment to really connect on a deeper level with each other, gain a bit of perspective on things, and maybe even remember the sacred purpose of your relationship, the reason you’re together.

At ANAM Therapy, we guide couples in creating their own rituals, but it doesn’t have to be an elaborate series of steps with all the bells and whistles — of course, it can be if you like, but what matters is the degree of presence and heart you bring to it. It can be as simple as lighting a candle and setting an intention. It can be as complex as a tantric ritual with multiple steps to it (which we can also guide you in).

Relationship rituals can serve to:

  • bring focus to individual/shared intentions or purpose
  • ground us in the midst of our busy lives
  • bring us into the present moment
  • remind us to honour and be grateful for our unique relationship journey
  • create a safe container for shared vulnerability and intimacy
  • reconnect partners physically, emotionally and spiritually
  • punctuate life with meaning that can infuse the rest of our lives with meaning.

If you’re interested in tantra, you can read more below about our tantric rituals below, however, this is just one framework that we can use, and a ritual doesn’t have to be connected to a spiritual tradition or belief system at all. You can read more about who this is for, what to expect, and also our online couples therapy in case that might be a better fit, below.

TANTRIC RITUALS

WHAT IS TANTRA?

“One of the first things I learned from my tantric master in India was this the tantric path is for everyone. It’s about living a life of everyday enlightenment — through enjoyment of all things, beyond ‘good’ and ‘bad’. It’s about getting rid of the idea of goals, learning instead how to be totally present in life as it arises.”

Laura O’Neill, Anam Therapy

Tantra is an ancient spiritual tradition originating in India, emphasizing the union of opposites, self-realization, and awakening through practices that include meditation, mantra, breath-work, movement, ritual, and sometimes sacred sexuality. Its focus is on achieving spiritual liberation by transcending the dualities of life and embracing the divine within. It doesn’t necessarily relate to sex — it includes but also transcends it. We like to see it as a path to intimacy with everything. Thus, practicing the principles of tantra in our intimate relationships is a great place to learn.

Neo-Tantra, on the other hand, is a modern interpretation that emphasizes the use of sexual energy as a tool for personal transformation and deeper connection. Rooted more in the West, it integrates elements from traditional Tantra but places greater focus on enhancing intimacy, pleasure, and personal healing rather than solely on spiritual liberation. Neo-Tantra might combine elements of meditation, mantra, breath-work, movement, and physical connection to promote a profound bond between partners, both emotionally and physically.

Both traditional and modern interpretations, however, work with energy. Many ancient cultures in the East, and also in the West (the Celts had their own chakra system) approached health from holistic, energetic perspective. Our rituals help enhance understanding of the energetics of relationships, which can improve individual and relational well-being.

WHAT WE SHARE WITH YOU

NEO-TANTRIC PRACTICES

Neo-tantric practices are contemporary approaches to tantra that blend ancient Eastern philosophies with modern therapeutic tools. Rooted in the principle of connecting body, mind, and spirit, neo-tantra often focuses on conscious intimacy, breathwork, energy awareness, and the cultivation of presence. Unlike traditional tantra, which can be deeply esoteric or devotional, neo-tantric work is often more accessible and oriented toward personal growth, healing, and relational depth. These practices can support individuals and couples in exploring desire, boundaries, vulnerability, and embodied connection in a safe, intentional way.

We’re here to help you to learn certain techniques and practices that you can bring into your relationships. Here are some elements that could be included in couples’ tantric coaching or rituals:

  • Body-centered techniques for grounding and trust
  • Breathwork for deeper connection
  • Techniques for cultivating presence and mindfulness
  • Eye-gazing exercises to foster intimacy
  • Gentle touch practices for trust and comfort
  • Energy awareness and movement exercises
  • Guided meditation to connect with self and partner
  • Creating and holding sacred space together
  • Communication practices for authentic expression
  • Practices for expanding awareness of the senses
  • Exercises to balance giving and receiving
  • Techniques to cultivate and harness energy

BENEFITS IN RELATIONSHIPS

The benefits to practicing anything together as a couple are well-documented. Couples who practice Tantra often report improved communication, emotional healing, and a deeper sense of fulfilment in their relationship. It can also reignite passion and bring a new level of intimacy that transcends the physical.

These tantric rituals allow couples to explore love and intimacy as sacred practices, shifting the experience from mere physical connection to a more holistic, energetic union that encompasses mind, body, and spirit. We help partners to learn to move past surface-level interactions and into a space where they can communicate without words, feel each other’s essence, and grow in erotic and emotional intimacy.

You can expect to receive:

  • An initiation into conscious sexuality and tantra; stepping away from goal-orientated being;
  • An alignment of body, heart and spirit, leading to deeper & more fulfilling relationships with ourselves and others;
  • A ritualistic honouring of sexuality as sacred, letting go of conditioned beliefs, shame and inhibition;
  • A journey of deep meditation and relaxation;
  • An embodied learning of techniques that can be brought into relationships;
  • An opportunity to know yourself and others on a deeper lever
